1. They will not let you come to their kennel as they do not have one. So visiting the puppy or seeing the parents before you place a deposit will not happen so stay away from them.

2. If they do not accept a personal check, a cashier's check or a money order, stay away from them.

​

3. They will always either want to meet you half way to deliver the puppy that they have promised you or will have to ship it as they don't have a kennel or a puppy for you. If you cannot see the puppy and the parents beforehand, stay away from them.

1. If you visit a Puppy Mill, the most important thing to know is that they treat dogs like cattle. The Amish are notorious for this. They are usually kept outside in the heat and cold with no kind of protection from the elements. The adults are usually sick with fleas and parasites and their hair is matted. They are either kept shaved or their hair is matted and ungroomed.

2. The puppies are usually sickly as you cannot have a healthy baby from unhealthy parents. The puppies will either be sick or close to imminent death. They will just lower the price so you will take it. If a puppy you are buying has fleas, it is from a puppy mill.

3. Puppy Mills are usually connected to the USDA as that organization handles mass produced livestock like cattle, sheep, goats, horses and so forth. Puppies should not be mass produced but only produced to enhance the breed as a whole. Ask that question when you speak to someone. If they are a member of the USDA, stay away from them. Many people buy from them to 'rescue' the puppies, but any money you are giving them is just helping them to stay in business.
